Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that these can be a newer concept to some. We do our best to provide any and all information to get those questions answered. If there are questions still left after viewing this page feel free to schedule a call below and we can cover anything you need in 5-10 minutes!
How is it free?
This is one of the most common questions we get! Solar gardens are just large-scale solar arrays. Being that it is such a large scale the cost becomes much cheaper per kwh than if the array was only installed on your home. On top of that you already pay a small fee on your Xcel bills called the “renewables energy std adj” that go to each solar garden to help our community progress towards a sustainable future. Both of those combined results in cleaner cheaper electricity.
Whats the catch?

If you are looking for a catch you are already in it. Every electric bill in the state has a "renewable energy standard" fee in the itemized charges. This ranges from 1%-2% of the energy bill every single month. You are paying for something you get no benefit from unless opting in. That is why we are here. We help you understand where the money goes, and how you can take full advantage of it!
How can I be sure I’m getting a discount?
Every solar credit purchased is applied to your utility statement. There you can view how many credits were applied each month and the value they covered. On top of that you will receive a statement from the solar provider every month letting you know what you paid and what was covered. This ensures transparency for the longevity of the program!
If the solar garden goes down, will I lose power to my home?
No, we are not the supplier of electricity. We are simply the producer of credits that you have the option of offsetting your bill with. This means in the rare instance that the solar garden gets shut down, such as a tornado coming through, you will still have power to your home. Although you would not be charged or receive any solar credits until the garden is functioning again.
When will credits start being applied?
Every situation is different depending on how far along the solar garden is. In some cases, it is built and ready to go. In others it is still in the process. Either way, you will not be charged any amount until the credits start flowing. Your representative can give you more precise information about your specific program.
Where will my farm be located?
Every situation is different. In the state of Minnesota there is an adjacency rule. This means you cannot receive credits unless a solar garden is in your county or one adjacent to it. Your representative will be able to give you more information on your specific program!
How long do is the commitment?
There is length of time you must stay with the program. It is free of charge to opt out at anytime, but without cancelling the program will run for 25 years at the same fixed savings the entire time!
Do you have to install anything?
No, we do not need to install anything on your property. The solar gardens are already built and ready to produce electricity on your behalf!
